Best use of a military bunker ever – fact

First visit to spanking new Gairloch Museum … Real treat. Good narratives, fine artifacts, stunning lighthouse lamp, lovely staff, imposing lochside location with views over the Minch - but the star is the building, a converted military bunker. Great it has been re-purposed in such a positive way - and the austere cement interior is cool in every sense.

The part that stands out most for me is an area where I have personal interest - Geology.

I don't think I have been anywhere else in the world - including huge natural history museums - which has managed to capture and explain the geology of the area - which is very complex. I would strongly recommend getting in touch with the various geological societies in this country & invite them to come along if they are on any field trips in the NW of Scotland.

Fabulous Experience

An amazing testament to the people of Gairloch and surrounding area. A fascinating,

respectful, gentle, educational and classy insight into the real life of the community.

Please make time to watch the film which is narrated by many of the community.

Loved the sections about the wars, really poignant, particularly the eye-witness report

of the searcher at the Fairy Lochs.

What a wonderful museum. There was enough of interest to keep everyone in our group

(aged 8 to 79) interested and engaged for a good long time.

Enjoyable museum for whole family

Gairloch museum packs a lot in a small space. The exhibits about the history of the area are very informative. The interactive parts for the children are great…

The staff are all very friendly and the shop has a great selection of gifts and books.

Excellent Museum In A New Location.

… The local community has made a wonderful job of converting a derelict building into a

wonderful and unique space. Exhibits include geological, natural and social history

from the stone age until the present. The museum is a fascinating place to spend time - don't take my word for it, go and visit.
