Researching the Heroes of Gairloch Parish, World War I

To commemorate the centenary of the First World War, our researchers have created a database using some of the information from “Na Gaisgich: The Heroes of Gairloch Parish, World War I” by Ann Roots and William MacRobbie.  This invaluable book details almost 500 people who lived locally and served King and country, 1914-1918.

You can search the summary database by name, home address, regiment/role and service, including medals awarded and, if relevant, place of burial or commemoration. We have added sections of photographs (including of objects) and documents from the Museum’s collection and archives. There is also a list of where you might research further. If you can tell us more of the local stories of the Great War, please do contact us.
